Doulton Water Filters Share Innovative Counterfeit Fightback Technique...
Doulton water filters will take the lead in helping companies from across the world protect their products from counterfeiting activity in a presentation at the WQA Convention. The ceramic water filter manufacturer, based in Staffordshire, UK, has developed an innovative solution to protect its products and customers from falling victim to fake products. At the international WQA 2018 Convention & Exposition, which takes place in the United States this week, Doulton Water Filters will deliver a presentation detailing the success of its authentication system in clamping down on fake copies. Check out our water solutions now! WQA: Showcasing the latest developments The annual showcase for the water treatment industry brings together leaders from across the industry to share information on developments, new technology and regulations. Doulton's sales manager for the United States, Tim Evans, who will be delivering the talk at the exhibition in Denver, Colorado, said: "Our products aim to enhance the well-being and health of our customers; in this marketplace, there is no room for poor imitations." "The level of counterfeit copies in the water treatment industry is alarming, particularly considering the amount of investment and research that goes into creating these high specification products." "Doulton is committed to protection and to this end created a comprehensive authentication system that cannot be replicated on fake copies." The water treatment industry has been plagued by counterfeit operators imitating their filters with inferior, sometimes dangerous, copies. As the technology is contained within the product, flaws usually only become apparent on use, and fake copies can appear outwardly convincing. The reality is that these fake filters are manufactured with inferior materials that will not remove contaminants from drinking water. Customers tempted by a lower price tag can be putting their health at risk if they inadvertently buy and install a counterfeit water filter. Authentication system In response to this problem, Doulton Water Filters, which supplies filters around the world, developed a two-step authentication system. This works by a unique serial number being added to every single filter. When a customer buys a genuine Doulton Water Filter, they can enter this code online to check it matches the company's manufacturing database. Tim added, "The WQA Convention is a fantastic platform to showcase the real inroads we have made into tackling the problem of counterfeit copies in the water treatment industry. "Hopefully, by sharing our insights, more legitimate producers can stop counterfeit producers from undermining their products and potentially putting consumers at risk." Learn morePlastic In Bottled Water: Micro-particles Are Double The...
The World Health Organisation has announced its intention to investigate the effects of plastic in drinking water, as a survey found plastic microparticles in bottled water. In a survey conducted by journalism organisation Orb, plastic microfibres were found in all but 17 of the 259 bottles of drinking water tested. The plastic found included polypropylene, nylon, and polyethene terephthalate (PET). On average, 325 plastic microparticles were discovered in a litre of water, although this actually ranged from 0 to 10,000. Check out our water solutions now! The size of the particle is also of interest - particles larger than 100 microns were counted in smaller numbers than those below that figure. The smaller microfibres, which were measured down to a level of 6.5 microns, were far more numerous, averaging 314 per litre of bottled water. Tap water Vs bottled water Orb also carried out an analysis of the presence of plastic in tap water in 2017. That survey found plastic microfibres in 83% of samples tested. However, the contamination levels in tap water were far lower than those in the recent analysis of bottled drinking water. Orb states: "For microplastic debris around 100 microns in size, about the diameter of a human hair, bottled water samples contained nearly twice as many pieces of microplastic per litre (10.4) than the tap water samples (4.45)." Consider the facts: Bottled water costs on average 500 times more than tap water. 1,000,000 plastic bottles are bought every minute and just 50 per cent are recycled. The health implications of consuming plastic microfibres are largely unknown. The discovery of microparticles in bottled water is the latest development that shows just how widespread the problem is - plastic is everywhere. The effect on health Research into the effect on human health of consuming tiny particles of plastic is urgently needed. With concerns about plastic microfibres entering the food chain through ocean pollution and drinking water, this health research needs to be a priority. While the world waits for answers and change as brands commit to plastic packaging reduction, consumers need to take matters into their own hands. Doulton Water Filters have been scientifically proven to remove plastic particles from drinking water, down to as small a size as 0.5 microns. The filters also remove up to 99.9+ of tested contaminants from drinking water. Undercounter filters can be fitted directly to the cold water supply to a kitchen tap, allowing access to healthy drinking water all day, every day. Combine that with a reusable bottle that allows you to take top quality drinking water with you - and top it up when out and about - and there is no reason at all to buy bottled water. Take charge of your drinking water by using a filter and play your part in cutting plastic waste. Check out our water solutions now!

Water Filters: Home improvement to benefit lifestyle Doulton Water Filters, a supporter of the campaign, believes lifestyle improvements to the home are a great way to introduce changes that will benefit the entire family. The company's drinking water filters allow families to enjoy healthy, great-tasting tap water by reducing up to 99.9% of contaminants, as well as disinfectants such as chlorine, which causes water to have a chemical taste. Doulton's ceramic filters also address issues with hard water, which can cause a buildup of limescale in the kettle and is responsible for the film left on cups of tea. Cut down on plastic waste Installing a water filter is ideal for environmentally-conscious homeowners wanting to cut down on single-use plastic. Millions of plastic water bottles are thrown away every day, adding to the devastating pollution of the world's oceans, which is putting wildlife at risk. Filtered water takes away the need to buy bottled water - and all the family can fill up reusable bottles and take top-quality drinking water with them when they leave the house. Marketing manager Yvonne Allen said: "Home improvement does not only have to be about undertaking major projects; small steps can bring big improvements, such as installing a water filter". The excellent taste and quality of filtered drinking water should encourage the whole family to drink more water and stay properly hydrated. Drinking water has been shown to help cut back on snacking, reduce fatigue and is essential to keep the body functioning properly. National Home Improvement Week aims to get people to think about how they could make positive changes at home, and adding a water filter is a great place to start. Encourage good hydration Health leaders advise that people should consume 6-8 glasses of water each day. With no added sugar or calories, water is the healthiest way to stay hydrated. Doulton water filters can be installed under the kitchen counter and attached directly to the tap's cold water supply, fitted above the counter or are also available in a portable gravity-fed system. Learn moreThe Benefits of Inline Water Filters
Drinking water filters can be used in a variety of different ways - one of the most convenient is the inline, or under-counter, filter. Check out our Inline water solutions now! In the home, this is usually achieved by adding added to the water supply that serves the main cold water tap in the kitchen. An inline water filter is attached directly to the water pipe running underneath the sink. Water is filtered as it passes through the ceramic candle contained within the housing before reaching the tap. Benefits of an inline water filter Inline water filters are a highly efficient and discreet way to filter drinking water.By being fitted under the counter, inline filters save surface space in the kitchen and are kept out of sight. They are also in operation constantly, so there is no need to empty containers or take action to activate the filter. Packed with ceramic technology, Doulton's inline water filters remove up to 99.99% of contaminants from drinking water, including: Chlorine Heavy metals Water-borne cysts such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium Pathogenic bacteria such as E. coli Inline water filters also provide a longer-term solution to easily access healthy drinking water with the ceramic candles inside the filter only needing to be replaced around every six months. Installing an inline water filter Most inline filters also require a compatible counter-top tap to channel the filtered water through. This can be either a dedicated cold water tap that is added to the additional tap set-up, or a three-way mixer tap that will provide hot, cold and filtered water. Each of Doulton's inline water filters comes complete with installation instructions, and video guidance is provided online, alternatively, installation would be very straightforward for a professional plumber. Doulton's inline water filters have been designed to make changing the ceramic candle a simple task, as they can screw out to be easily replaced. Learn moreWhat To Look For In Water Filter Test...
Testing Water Filter Efficiency Water filtration is a science - an exact, researched method for filtering out minuscule contaminants from drinking water. The success of this research - and the credibility of Doulton Water Filters - is borne out by stringent, but importantly, lengthy tests that prove that the ceramic candles used in Doulton Water Filters continue to offer absolute filtration day after day, week after week, month after month. The only way the long-standing performance value of a water filter can be accurately measured is with a long-standing test. This takes time. These tests also reveal how long a ceramic water filter candle can maintain absolute filtration before it needs to be replaced. Check out our water solutions now! A guaranteed lifespan The facts and figures related to these tests are what give Doulton Water Filters their deserved reputation - and what guarantees customers are getting what they pay for: a filter that reduces up to 99.99% of contaminants for its lifespan. That is our standard, and we will never settle for less than the best. Yet consumers need to be aware of differing standards in tests that prove the effectiveness of a water filter. We all know that a snapshot of a film does not give the full story, so too with water filter tests. A snapshot test, where contaminants are concentrated through a water filter in a very short space of time, cannot give an accurate reading of a filter's long-term effectiveness. Time matters In the industry, this is known as "short-term cocktail testing". It may give an indication of a filter's short-term performance, but it cannot indicate how that will be maintained over a period of time, or signal when a water filter should be replaced. When considering claims of a water filter's effectiveness through test results, the most revealing facts can be those that are left out. Operating under pressure Always check the recommended flow rate or the flow which a filter has been tested. How fast the water flows is a really important factor in testing a filter's efficiency. Testing at a low flow rate allows the filter media more time in contact with the water, resulting in a greater filtration efficiency. However, the customer may want to run the filter at a higher flow rate, which may result in lower quality water than advertised for the filter. Other important factors that should not be missing from a test report are the level of contaminants and the volume of water filtered - these will both have a significant impact on efficiency findings. Wherever possible, always opt for a system that has been tested to an industry-standard method, where meaningful levels of contamination and clear end-of-life capacities are used. Customers need to be assured that the water filter they have chosen will perform consistently throughout the recommended service life. They also need to know when they need to replace it to ensure that they will continue to have full protection. Cutting corners diminishes quality and trust. Always look at the bigger picture when considering claims made about a water filter's capacity. Choose quality Doulton Water Filters have been in production for almost 200 years - we know there can be no compromise when it comes to quality. When testing the effectiveness of our water filters, we use stringent tests to account for all levels of use and to pinpoint how long the ceramic candles will provide absolute filtration. There is no comparison between short-term testing and comprehensive testing. Don't take a chance with the quality of your drinking water; let the facts speak for themselves, choose a Doulton water filter. Check out our water solutions now!
Learn moreGiardia - What Is It & Why Is...
Giardia is one of the most common water contaminants, despite the word being unfamiliar to many. Carried in cyst form, it enters waterways and, through a variety of ways, can cause an unpleasant stomach illness when ingested. Check out our water solutions now! How does Giardia get into drinking water? Giardia parasites infect the intestines of both humans and animals. It enters the water system through infected faeces, either through entering the soil, agricultural water run-off, infected sewerage or by people with the bug going swimming. Giardia is filtered with our water filter systems. What are the health risks of Giardia? Often, people can become infected by Giardia (which is also known as Giardia lamblia) and display no symptoms; however, it can also cause a debilitating stomach illness. Those infected by the parasite usually develop giardiasis, which causes diarrhoea, nausea, fatigue, bloating and weight loss. How seriously people are affected by the symptoms varies, but Giardiasis can lead to chronic fatigue and dehydration if not treated. The disease often also reoccurs, causing bouts of illness that can be months apart - and can last for years. While the illness can be treated with antibiotics, this is dependent on getting the disease correctly identified through a medical laboratory test. It is believed that many sufferers are unaware that infection with Giardia could be responsible for their symptoms, which have instead been attributed to irritable bowel syndrome or chronic fatigue syndrome. How is Giardia in drinking water treated? - Giardia Water Filter Giardia is highly resistant to chlorine and chloramine, which are standard disinfectants used to treat municipal drinking water supplies. Instead, their removal relies on filtration processes put in place at water processing plants. As the particles are relatively large, this is a successful treatment, although also using a drinking water filter at home will offer you an added layer of protection and reassurance. Doulton Water Filters provide absolute filtration, which is less than 1 micron, and will remove up to 99.99% of common contaminants, including Giardia. Protection is the best way to guard against the unknown - don't fall victim to Giardia; take charge of what is in your drinking water by using a Doulton water filter. Learn morePlastic-Free Water is Here! Learn How To Get...
Many commitments to change are made at the beginning of a new year, but one that has real global momentum is a resolution to cut plastic waste. Already, 2018 has seen the Iceland supermarket chain commit to making all its own-brand products plastic-free within five years, while the British Government has proposed plastic-free supermarket aisles as part of a 25-year plan to stop the use of 'avoidable' plastic. Check out our refillable Water Bottles now! While rapid changes are being sought, Doulton Water Filters already offers a sustainable alternative to using plastic water bottles. Environmentalists have known for years that plastic waste is a serious problem - that this material so readily used in so many everyday items is a disaster in waiting for the natural world. Now the world has woken up to that reality. Shocking images of trapped sea life, birds feeding plastic to their young and islands of plastic waste in the world's oceans have grabbed the public's attention. While many resolutions have been made - and no doubt broken - one resolution that needs to go the distance is a commitment to cut out plastic packaging where necessary, particularly single-use plastic. How can I cut back on plastic use? While we know the time for change is overdue, retailers and manufacturers are scrambling for a solution. Plastic is used in toothpaste, cleaning products, and food wrapping - it is everywhere. Committing to cutting back on plastic doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing approach from day one, making small changes every day will add up to a big difference while solutions are found to transform products reliant on plastic. The Role of Water Filters There is no need to wait for plastic-free aisles to play your part in reducing plastic waste. There are some very easy places to start cutting out plastic packaging, and not buying bottled water is the most obvious. While supermarkets - and governments - search for an alternative to plastic packaging, plastic-free water is already easily available thanks to water filters and reusable bottles. Single-use plastics, such as water bottles, are a major part of the waste problem. Just imagine how many bottles of water are consumed and thrown away around the world every day. There is absolutely no need for this. Doulton Water Filters deliver water straight from the tap that is clean and tested to the highest standards to ensure the highest quality. Bottled water costs up to 1,000 times more than tap water and has repeatedly been found to be no healthier. Consumer power drives change and when choice registers at the checkouts, manufacturers will take notice. The developed world certainly does not need water in plastic bottles. Use a water filter and a refillable bottle, and play your part in cutting plastic waste now. Check out our refillable Water Bottles now!
