Join Doulton Water Filters at Grand Designs Live
We are reminding visitors at Grand Designs Live that taking care of the simple things like clean drinking water, is the best way to build the foundations for a healthy and sustainable home. Bringing two new products to the show at the Birmingham NEC, Doulton Water Filters will be keen to drive home the message that sustainability and good health can be individual choices. Manufacturing high-quality water filters, the Staffordshire company wants more people to embrace sustainable living through the use of a water filter rather than relying on bottled water. Check out our water solutions now! For the first time, the ceramic filtration specialist will be showcasing its high-end Royal Doulton ELITE water filter, which combines sleek lines with the highest specification water filter, alongside the new portable filter bottle. The aim of both products is to allow families access to the highest quality drinking water, whether they are at home or on the move. Sustainable living With approximately 7.7 billion single-use plastic water bottles being used in the UK each year, Doulton Water Filters wants consumers to make the switch to tap water while remaining convinced of the quality of their drinking water. Two of the products displayed by the firm at Grand Designs Live, the top-end Royal Doulton ELITE and the filtadapt, are designed to become an integral part of the kitchen by providing clean filtered water on tap. Using natural ceramic technology, these water filters remove up to 99.99% of common contaminants from drinking water, including chlorine, micro-plastics, bacteria and heavy metals to improve the taste and quality. Such is the importance of these products in helping to turn the tide of plastic waste pollution, the flexible and affordable filtadapt has already been named 'game changer' by influential trend predictor Scarlet Opus at this year's Exclusively Housewares show. Renewable hydration is a major part of efforts to cut reliance on single-use plastic, and Doulton Water Filters believes its products offer a solution. Recognising the need for reliable drinking water on the move, the firm has now introduced the Doulton TASTE filter bottle, which compresses the high-efficiency filtration Doulton is known for into a portable bottle. The resilient and robust TASTE bottle allows people to fill up on the go, wherever they are, without needing to buy single-use plastic water bottles. Cut back on single-use plastic by using a water filter Using a water filter over the space of 10 years is forecast to avoid the purchase of 23,000 single-use plastic water bottles. Doulton Water Filters marketing manager Yvonne Allen said: "The impact of single-use plastic is shocking and we all need to play a part to protect the environment. There really is no excuse for buying single-use plastic bottles of water. A water filter will deliver clean, healthy, great-tasting water on tap, day after day at a fraction of the cost." One knock-on effect of plastic pollution has been concerned about the human consumption of microplastics. It has been reported that humans ingest 50,000 plastic micro-particles each year. Plastic micro-particles have been found in tap water and bottled water, with people who drink bottled water consuming 90,000 extra micro-particles compared to 4,000 for tap water. Doulton water filters remove fine particles that are invisible to the naked eye, such as dirt, rust, and microplastics. Yvonne added: As well as offering a way to cut back on bottled water, water filters will help to protect you from consuming plastic micro-particles. Investing in a water filter is a way to help protect your health as well as play your part in protecting the environment. "Doulton water filters are subjected to strenuous to verify our claims and cut back on numerous contaminants that have been linked to health issues. Adding a water filter to your kitchen should be a natural step for families interested in sustainable and healthy living. "For water that tastes great and is free from contaminants, a Doulton water filter makes an excellent investment for your health, home and future." Learn moreHelp Your Child Make the Most of School:...
Do you want to help your child concentrate at school? One easy improvement to make could be to encourage them to drink more water. Good hydration is essential to good brain health as well as your overall wellbeing, including helping to boost and maintain concentration levels. Children have more water in their bodies than adults, so it makes sense that drinking enough water will help them to perform at their best, physically and mentally. They are also more susceptible to dehydration as a result of this. Check out our water solutions now! How does water help with my child's concentration? One of the indicators of dehydration is tiredness and memory loss, which are probably the enemies of concentration and should be avoided at all costs. Drinking water regularly throughout the day will help to fend off those early signs of dehydration before they become a problem. Water also ensures the body and the brain can function properly. Fluid helps to transport blood around the body to the major organs, regulates temperature, and controls responses such as histamine levels. While ensuring that blood keeps flowing to the brain, water also supplies oxygen to the brain and supports the function of brain cells. Did you know? Water makes up more than 70% of the brain. Water makes up more than 70% of the brain, but the brain is unable to store water, which is why good hydration is so important to support brain health. Even only slight levels of dehydration have been found to affect concentration levels as well as cause increased stress and tension. Drink water to improve concentration at school The good news is that as little as 25mls of water will help to boost the concentration of a child by 30%, while 300mls will restore optimum performance by 25% in adults, according to a study by the University of Westminster and the University of East London. Such is the improvement in mood and concentration that the study recommends taking water into exams and tests. The best way to fend off dehydration is to keep drinking water handy and take sips throughout the day, as once thirst becomes a factor, the chances are that you are already beginning to feel the effects of dehydration. Why water? It's not just dehydration that can cause dips in mood and concentration, excessive consumption of sugar or caffeine can result in energy crashes, which is why it makes sense to try to get your child to stick to water. With no extra calories or sugar, water will not harm your child's teeth or add to their daily calorie intake and it is virtually free when drunk from the tap or a water fountain. The cheapest and most environmentally-friendly way to make sure your child stays hydrated is to fill up a reusable bottle with filtered water at home that they can top up later on if needed. Using a water filter will help to improve the taste of bottled water, which could help you to encourage your child to drink more. Along with good nutrition, adequate sleep, and exercise, drinking water will put in place the foundations for a good education by supporting your child's wellbeing and concentration levels. Learn moreFilters Offer Solution to Concerns Over Microplastics in...
A new study has found that people drinking bottled water are possibly consuming more than double the amount of microplastics than those who choose tap water. Now Doulton Water is reminding families who want to take action to protect themselves against ingesting microparticles that a water filter can help. Check out our water solutions now! A recent study into the effect of plastic pollution on humans, led by Kieran Cox, found that people could be consuming as many as 39,000 to 52,000 plastic microparticles each year. The study drew the findings from existing research and found evidence of plastic micro-particles in a number of food and drink products. These products included honey, beer, sugar and salt. The study then looked at how often these were consumed. However, a startling finding from the study carried out by the University of Victoria and the Hakai Institute research centre, was how much the expected level of microplastic consumption increased when drinking bottled water. Plastic micro-particles in bottled water People who only drank tap water were found to be exposed to 4,000 plastic microparticles compared to 90,000 in people who only drank bottled water. With little known about the effects of consuming microplastics on the body or tolerance levels, there is concern about what effect this could have. The consequences could be people taking action to cut their exposure to, and reliance on plastic in their day-to-day lives. Doulton Water manufactures water filtration systems from its base in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, that remove microplastics from tap water down to 0.5 microns in size. Control the quality of your water People often ask, 'Can water filters remove microplastics?' Doulton's water filters use all-natural ceramic technology to remove up to 99.99% of common contaminants from drinking water, including microplastics. So, in simple terms, yes. Marketing manager Yvonne Allen said: "Our health is too important to take chances with, and taking steps to avoid consuming microplastics clearly makes sense. Doulton water filters allow people to drink water straight from the tap that is clean and that tastes as good as bottled water. Research into microplastics in drinking water has focused on particles sized 6.5 to 100 microns. Doulton Water Filters will remove plastic-sized particles just 0.5 microns from drinking water making them ideal for families who want peace of mind in regard to what they are drinking. "The findings are certainly alarming, but as individuals, we can take action to protect ourselves as well as to cut down our single-use plastic waste footprint by choosing not to buy bottled water." Doulton Water Filters is a global water filtration specialist that has been manufacturing ceramic water filters for nearly 200 years. Want to learn more? Learn moreWhy We All Need to Care for the...
Clean water is something that everyone should have access to, but that should never be taken for granted. Water Quality Month is a timely reminder of our individual responsibilities to protect the planet and the resources that we depend upon. The quality of the water we drink is everything, and that is much more than variations in taste; polluted, contaminated water is harmful to the natural world as well as humans. While we depend on water companies to deliver quality drinking water, rivers and streams can all too often become polluted as a result of human activity. Check out our water solutions now! The importance of cutting down on water pollution As we are being encouraged to take a greener, more environmentally conscious approach to modern living, Water Quality Month wants to encourage a few simple steps to reduce water pollution and protect drinking water quality standards. These include: Tips to reduce water pollution: Avoiding the use of pesticides and fertilisers as these get flushed into the water system Do not flush medicines down the toilet these pharmaceuticals head straight into the water system Avoid using household chemical cleaners, which again wash into the water system Do not tip paint or oil down the drain Stop buying single-use plastic The pollutants affecting our water While considering how to avoid accidentally polluting water, it is worthwhile to consider the pollutants that can affect water. In developed countries, most contaminants are removed during the sanitation process ahead of the water being channelled into the mains supply. Disinfectant, usually chlorine or chloramine, is also added to the water to prevent any contamination as the water completes its journey to serve people's homes. Using a water filter allows families to remove that chlorine once the water has reached their home, as well as any other common contaminants that may be present. In areas where there is a concern about drinking water quality standards, using a water filter is a sensible idea as it brings a guarantee of quality. The major pollutants that can affect drinking water quality include: Groundwater run-off - Agricultural groundwater run-off brings with it fertilisers and pesticides used to treat crops, as well as potential bacteria from animals grazing on the land. Even run-off from non-agricultural areas can be problematic washing oil from cars and bacteria from pet faeces into waterways. Toxins washed into waterways - Paint, industrial pollutants, chemicals, and oil can all be washed into drains or even directly into rivers, causing a problem for aquatic life as well as the quality of the water. Heavy metals - Rust and other debris can make their way into the waterway through old pipes, porous rocks, and discarded items and rubbish. Microplastics - Research has found microplastics in drinking water and tap water as a result of plastic micro-particles being released from decaying plastic, as well as being washed into the system from plastic-based clothing. The problems with polluted water Untreated water can also contain cysts such as cryptosporidium, which can cause stomach illness. If not removed from drinking water, many of these pollutants and contaminants could cause serious illnesses, including cholera, shigella, E. coli, and salmonella. Presented with the results of a lack of care towards our waterways that feed our drinking water supply, it is patently obvious why we should all take care to protect the quality of our water. Doulton believes everyone should have access to the best quality drinking water. Using a Doulton water filter will give you peace of mind about drinking water quality by removing up to 99.99% of common contaminants, as well as chlorine and microplastics down to 0.5 microns. Learn moreHow To Stay Hydrated (With Healthy Water) In...
As soon as the mercury begins to rise above usual levels warnings are issued about heatwaves but why are they dangerous and how can you stay hydrated? Check out our water solutions now! The start of summer 2019 has seen parts of Europe sweltering in a heatwave while 2018 saw a prolonged period of unusually high temperatures in the UK. With climate change becoming an increasing problem, scientists are warning that we should expect more heatwaves to come. During a heatwave, as well as trying to stay cool wherever possible, members of the public are also advised to stay hydrated to avoid the ill effects of the excess heat. Why is it important to stay hydrated in a heatwave? Hydration is important every day of the year as water provides our bodies with the means to transport blood and to support the function of major organs such as the heart and brain. As the body loses fluids they need to be replaced by drinking more water to avoid dehydration. In hot weather, this is even more important as increased sweating means more fluid is lost. Plus, hydration in a heatwave also serves to help cool the body and regulate temperature. The main health concern when there is a heatwave is heatstroke. Initial symptoms may prove to be heat exhaustion, which can be treated if fast action is taken to cool the person down including drinking plenty of water. If this develops into heatstroke emergency treatment is absolutely necessary. How can drinking water help in a heatwave? Heatstroke is caused when the body overheats, which makes staying cool in a heatwave important as difficult as this may be. Sweating is the body's natural response to heat as it self-cools. As fluids are lost through sweating it is important to stay hydrated to help regulate your temperature and to avoid dehydration. Dehydration and excessive heat are a lethal combination and the effects on your body should not be underestimated. In fact, dehydration can be a factor in heatstroke. To stay safe in a heatwave wear loose-fitting clothing, seek shade and cool areas and be careful when exercising and, of course, drink plenty of water. Tips to stay hydrated in a heatwave: Always carry a bottle of drinking water with you Sip water regularly throughout the day to maintain fluids Use an insulated reusable bottle to enjoy cool water on the go Always drink water with meals Enjoy ice-lollies made with water and juice Avoid alcohol Filtered tap water tastes great and is an excellent way to get all the family drinking more water if you are concerned about hydration. An Environmentally Friendly Alternative To Bottled Water The Doulton TASTE Bottle has been carefully designed taking into consideration many of the common issues and concerns related to the bottled water industry today. One of these issues relates to the plastic problem and the impact of single-use plastic waste upon the planet, oceans and wildlife. The TASTE bottle is an environmentally friendly, cost-effective alternative, eliminating the need to purchase single-use plastic bottled water. Doulton believes that the impact of individual choice will collectively help to preserve the planet. There are many simple changes that individuals can make to reduce their plastic waste footprint, starting by eliminating the use of single-use plastic bottles, which is one of the major contributors to plastic pollution around the world. The cold, hard facts... Nearly 35.8 million single-use plastic water bottles are used in the UK every day, half of which are not recycled. Consequently, each year, 8 million tonnes of plastic waste enter and pollute the oceans, damaging and threatening marine life and adding dangerously to the plastic problem. Doulton home water filter systems have helped families to avoid single-use plastic bottles at home for many years and the launch of the Doulton TASTE bottle will help many people to be environmentally friendly whilst on the go. As well as being an environmentally friendly alternative to bottled water, the Doulton TASTE bottle is also a cost-effective substitute, costing just 3 pence per litre of instantly filtered water. With bottled water costing an average of 85 pence per litre, the TASTE bottle helps to save the pennies, as well as the planet. Depending upon the quality of the tap water, the TASTE bottle cartridge can filter up to 300 litres, or 600 bottle fills before a replacement is required. Refill Out and About With Doulton TASTE As a result of concerns regarding the plastic problem around the globe increase, authorities in London and many other cities in the UK have installed drinking water fountains for public use, allowing thirsty residents and visitors to refill a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated on the go and ditch single-use plastic bottles. Refill schemes allow the general public to refill their reusable water bottles free of charge at local restaurants, bars and cafes. By simply downloading the Refill app, users can locate the nearest refill station and take their reusable water bottle to be refilled, discouraging the use of single-use plastic bottles. With the support of Refill schemes and the installation of public water filters, reusing the Doulton TASTE bottle whilst out and about couldn't be easier. Effective removal of chlorine, organic contaminants and heavy metals eliminates any uncertainty regarding the cleanliness of public water fountains and ensuring that the water you drink, refilled from any tap is clean, healthy and the best quality it can be. Avoid Microplastic Particles in Bottled and Tap Water Although the impact of microplastic consumption on human health is still unknown, there are concerns around plastic particles entering the food chain through drinking water and ocean pollution. Recent studies conducted by Orb Media revealed that almost 93% of the bottled water can contain microplastic particles, with one litre containing an average of 10 plastic particles. The Doulton TASTE bottle helps to avoid consuming microplastic particles by eliminating the need to purchase single-use plastic bottled water. The majority of plastic particles found in bottled water matches a common plastic that is used for the water bottle caps, suggesting that some plastic particles enter bottled water when the cap is broken to open the bottle. The presence of microplastic particles is not solely confined to bottled water. Studies have shown that tap water can contain an average of 4.45 plastic particles per litre. Orb Media observed that the size of plastic particles present in tap water range from 6.5 to 100 microns in size. As well as helping to avoid microplastic particles as an alternative to bottled water, the TASTE bottle also removes microplastics from the tap water used to fill up, effectively removing fine particles down to one micron in size. Stay Hydrated Whenever, Wherever Water is essential for human survival. The human body is made up of around 60% water, so it's important to stay hydrated to ensure the body can function correctly. Maintaining fluid intake and drinking plenty of water improves blood circulation and the distribution of oxygen to the vital organs in the body. Due to busy lifestyles and work schedules, many people find it difficult to regularly drink water on the go. Whether you're in the car, on the train or sitting at your desk at work, keeping a refillable, reusable water bottle with you will help you to remember to sip plenty of water throughout the day.
