Our Humanitarian Work

Our humanitarian work

Ceramic water filtration that you can trust. Made in Britain since 1826.

Everyone deserves clean drinking water, but too many people lack access to this key resource. An unreliable water supply can be caused by anything from poor economic stability, a war, a natural disaster or even just a remote environment.

British Berkefeld® and Doulton ceramic water filters offer trusted, portable and durable solutions for short, medium and long-term use in areas with unreliable water.

Our water filters take minutes to assemble, use no power and filter particles and pathogens out of almost any freshwater source, leaving healthier drinking water.

HEALTHY, CLEAN WATER, QUICKLY

Hurricane Stan hit Guatemala in 2005, making 100,000 people homeless and leaving infrastructure badly damaged. Although there was plenty of surface water available, it was not safe to drink.

Mudslides had blocked roads which made the distribution of bottled water almost impossible, especially to isolated communities. British Berkefeld® ceramic filters were distributed, providing people with the ability to filter their own drinking water.

SUSTAINABLE DRINKING WATER

The flagship Utz Ja’ Project in Guatemala delivered a sustainable model for the provision of low-cost water filter systems to rural communities.

High-quality British Berkefeld® ceramic filters were integrated into locally manufactured food-grade plastic containers. Not only was the water quality guaranteed at low cost but local jobs were created for the manufacture, assembly and distribution of Utz Ja’ systems.
