Doulton Water Filter Highlighted as 'Game Changer' at...

Doulton water filters have been selected as a "Game Changer" in Exclusively Houseware's influential Scarlet Opus trend showcase. Check out our water solutions now! Sustainability Matters Sustainable hydration has been identified as a leading force in future consumer choices with families looking for more environmentally-friendly ways to live well. Led by trend forecaster Scarlet Opus, the On Trend showcase at this year's Exclusively Housewares show is a major indicator of the products consumers and retailers will be investing in over the next two to three years. A new "Game Changer" trend showcase at Exclusively Housewares, which runs from June 11-12, will highlight innovative products that combine technology and sustainability. Doulton use natural ceramic technology to filter harmful contaminants from tap water. Providing consumers with quality, tasty water straight from the tap with no need for single-use plastic water bottles. A Shift In Consumer Wants & Needs Doulton's filtadapt in Pebble, which will feature as the On Trend "Game Changer" Recommended Product, combines this powerful filtration with the flexibility needed for modern life that makes it suitable for all. The need to cut plastic pollution as a result of the hard-hitting Blue Planet television series has resonated with consumers, who have been made sharply aware of the need for collective action in cutting waste. Each year, 77 billion single-use plastic bottles are used in the UK and campaigners are now urging more people to carry reusable bottles and to drink tap water. The message of longevity and quality has long been part of Doulton Water Filters' ethos. The water filters remove up to 99.99% of common contaminants from tap water, including chlorine, which can affect the taste. Doulton's Marketing Manager, Yvonne Allen said: "With a 10-year life expectancy for the housing, a Doulton water filter, with replacement filter cartridges, will deliver 46,000 litres of drinking water, which would avoid the purchase of 23,000 single-use plastic water bottles. That is a significant individual impact on single-use plastic waste and the more households choosing water filters instead of bottled water, the greater the reduction in waste will be. "It is clear that sustainable living is essential and that waste reduction needs to be a common theme in households to help to protect the environment. Where the quality of drinking water is a concern, using a water filter is the sustainable solution." Why Choose Doulton? A Doulton ceramic filter features an outer shell that is made from 100% natural earths with coconut shell used for an activated carbon core. The biodegradable filter cartridges need to be replaced every six to 12 months to maintain maximum performance. Yvonne added: "Good hydration is important to wellbeing and the obvious choice for a healthy lifestyle is water, rather than sugary bottled drinks. Drinking filtered water straight from the tap is vital to maintain health and live more sustainably." Scarlet Opus is a leading trend forecaster identifying future fashions to inform the retail, manufacturing, design and architecture industries. It has identified three key trends for the future: Traveller, focused on world stability and fairness; Fellowship, based on the idea of collective action to create a better tomorrow; and Satori, a natural and sustainable approach to living. Doulton Water Filters will be exhibiting at Exclusively Housewares on stand 258. Check out our water solutions now!

Earth Day Thoughts: How Sustainable Is Your Drinking Water?

Earth Day Thoughts: How Sustainable Is Your Drinking...

Earth Day is a global initiative that aims to get individuals across the world thinking about changes they could make to help protect the environment. The Earth Day Network works throughout the year to fight against climate change, plastic pollution and to help protect endangered species. Earth Day is on 22nd April each year and is a global opportunity for individuals to get involved and take action, however small or large, to support this. The idea is that individuals acting collaboratively have a major impact when taking positive action to bring about change. At Doulton, we whole-heartedly support this approach. When it comes to the problem of plastic pollution, consumers play a huge part. If the market for single-use plastic is not there, manufacturers will be forced to make a change. Check out our refillable Water Bottles now! Make a change refuse to buy single-use bottled water A simple change that families can make is to refuse to buy single-use plastic bottles of water or other drinks. If individuals across the country chose to fill up a reusable water bottle at home and take it with them every day, this would have a huge impact on the amount of single-use plastic drinks bottles used and thrown away. Plus, with cafes and restaurants signing up to incentives to actively demonstrate that people can get free water refills there is no excuse to add to plastic pollution. Using a water filter at home means you can always be sure of the quality of the water that you are drinking and enjoy an improved taste. If you are concerned about the quality of the water used to refill bottles, filter bottles offer a portable solution. With such a simple solution already available to help cut down the problem of single-use plastic waste, Doulton Water Filters has donated portable water filters to a community event to help highlight the problem of plastic waste. If more communities raised awareness like this Earth Day Eco Event in Waltham St Lawrence, in Berkshire, it could really make a difference to how people perceive a solution to plastic pollution. Earth Day is an ideal time to consider how you could reduce your environmental footprint and turning your back on single-use bottles of water could be a good place to start. Choose a water filter instead. Find out more here. Check out our refillable Water Bottles now!

What Exactly Is Your Water Filter Taking Out Of Your Drinking Water?

What Exactly Is Your Water Filter Taking Out...

Choosing a water filter should not only be about taste but how effective it is at removing unwanted contaminants. While improving the taste is important to the enjoyment of drinking water, the removal of contaminants that are invisible to the eye is perhaps more important from a wellbeing point of view. When people invest in a water filter they are making an investment in their own health. The everyday benefits of drinking clean, fresh water every day are undoubted. Yet the type of water filter you choose will determine how it works and the effect that has on your drinking water. Check out our water solutions now! To properly filter contaminants of all types water filters need to combine more than one approach, meaning the more powerful and comprehensive the water filter is, the better it will perform. Not all water filters have the same power of filtration and cannot remove all contaminants, while the capacity of how much water can be filtered at once is also an issue, as is longevity and how much replacement filters will cost and how much waste they will generate. What contaminants can be found in drinking water? The contaminants that can be a problem in water include: Microparticles of plastic Bacteria for example salmonella, E. coli and cholera Waterborne cysts such as cryptosporidium and giardia, which cause stomach illnesses Disinfectants, including chlorine Rust and foreign particles Heavy metals, including lead As different approaches are needed to remove these a multi-layer water filter, such as an Undercounter Water Filter will provide a more comprehensive solution. When choosing a water filter it is important to know what contaminants you want to make sure are not in your water and whether your chosen water filter is effective at removing them. How filter jugs work Filter jugs are a commonly used device to filter water but they do have limitations. While being flexible and easy to use this does come at the compromise of capacity and long-term performance. Many filter jugs focus solely on the removal of chlorine to improve the taste of drinking water by using activated carbon to remove chlorine. The nature of activated carbon makes it unsuitable for removing most other contaminants. Prone to limescale build-up, the effectiveness of these filters can be reduced by limescale deposits and the filter will usually need to be replaced frequently. Some jug filters also incorporate ion exchange resins to target limescale as well as heavy metals. A problem with filter jugs is capacity and longevity. There is a limited amount of water that the jug can hold and it is necessary to wait for the water to move through the filter before using it. If you were using it for cooking or serving several people you would need to think ahead and store the water. Due to limescale build-up the effectiveness of many jug filters can also be quickly reduced, they will often need to be replaced after two months. How under-counter filters work Undercounter water filters are well regarded for their efficiency, powerful filtration and for providing water on tap. Most undercounter water filters will combine a number of methods to achieve excellent levels of filtration. Doulton Water Filters uses ceramic technology at the heart of its filters to remove up to 99.99% of common contaminants, which has been verified in tests. The make-up of the porous ceramic membrane is such that it can filter particles out down to a size of just one micron. The micropores in this ceramic outer shell work to stop bacteria, plastic micro-particles and waterborne cysts getting into your drinking water. Activated carbon is also used to target disinfectants, such as chlorine as well as organic chemical compounds to improve the taste and colour of the water. Reduction media is incorporated to reduce heavy metals and, finally, scale inhibitors are added to prevent limescale build up. All this technology is packed neatly into filter candles that fit discreetly under the sink to directly serve the cold water supply and provide fresh, clean water on tap with no need to plan ahead for how much is needed. The structure of the ceramic water filters also allows them to work at full capacity for between six to 12 months, cutting down on waste. Doulton water filter candles are available in different specification to suit your own needs regarding water filtration. When choosing a water filter make sure that you choose a filter that does what you want it to. Find out more about the water filters available from Doulton here. Check out our water solutions now!
