What Are PFAS?

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a large group of man-made chemicals. They are strong. They resist water, grease, and heat. That is why they are commonly used in non-stick pans, waterproof coats, food packaging, and even firefighting foam.

There is a huge problem when it comes to PFAS, though. That problem is that they do not break down. They stay. For thousands of years. Which is why they are commonly known as ‘Forever Chemicals’.

Not only do they stay, but they also settle in soil, move through water and build up within both animals and humans who consume them. The best water filter to reduce PFAS would depend on the type of system set-up you’re looking for. When it comes to the best water filter from Doulton for PFAS reduction, we have a few options available. The first would be the British Berkefeld Gravity system with Ultra Sterasyl filters which have been tested to NSF standards, completed by QFT – an independent accredited laboratory in USA and can reduce up to 95 % of PFAs from your water. The second option to reduce PFAS in your water, is a Doulton DUO or TRIO under sink water filter system fitted with the PFAS prefilter cartridge (which also has Lead, Chloramine & Chlorine filtration). The Doulton DUO or TRIO systems combine the power of our hero ceramic filter, the Biotect Ultra – with the addition of reduction cartridges tailored to your needs. In the DUO you can simply add our PFAS reduction cartridge, or in the TRIO you can maximise protection by fitting the PFAS cartridge and an additional prefilter like Limescale or Fluoride!

The gravity filter process alongside our ceramic filters with an activated carbon media inside ensures that PFAS chemicals attach to the filter media as the water travels through, allowing for the cleaned water to continue through to the bottom chamber.
