Do I need to use a Doulton 3-Way Tap or Doulton Pillar Tap with my Doulton under sink water filter system?
We strongly recommend using a tap from the Doulton range with your under sink water filter system.
Our taps go through strict quality control and sourcing processes to ensure reliability and performance. More importantly, they are specifically designed to work seamlessly with Doulton under sink systems, helping to maintain proper water pressure and flow rate without complications.
Many third-party taps use a ¼” inlet feed pipe, which is not ideal for Doulton systems and can result in reduced water flow. In contrast, Doulton taps use a 3/8” connection, which is engineered to maintain optimal flow when used with our under sink water filter systems.
For the best performance and to avoid potential flow issues, we recommend choosing a Doulton tap.
Is the Doulton HIP TRIO Independently tested?
The HIP TRIO system is tested and certified by WRAS & by NSF International against NSF/ANSI Standard 372 (US low lead requirements).
The Biotect Ultra Filter itself is tested to the following NSF standards in the EcoFast Biotect Ultra Inline System:
- NSF/ANSI Standard 42 – Material Safety, class 1 particulate and chlorine reduction
- NSF/ANSI Standard 53 – Turbidity, and lead reduction
- NSF/ANSI Standard 401 – Microplastic reduction
- NSF/ANSI Standard 372 – Lead-free compliance

Where can I find the instructions for installing and maintaining my Doulton filter system?
There will be installation details in the box, but if you
would like to take a look online, you can find them by clicking here: Installation Instructions
How often do I need to replace my filter?
We recommend changing the Biotech Ultra filter at around 6 months. This depends on water usage, though. For the cartridges we recommend changing them a little more frequently, at around 3 months for the most effective protection.
Is there anything else I need to consider?
We would recommend performing a flow test on your
existing drinking water supply to check that the pressure of your water supply is sufficient for the system to run effectively. This is a simple test you can
do yourself at home with a jug and a timer!
Steps to check water pressure:
- Place the jug under your kitchen tap.
- Turn the cold tap on fully.
- Start the timer as soon as water begins to flow.
- Stop the timer when the jug reaches exactly 1litre.
- Check how long it took.
If it took under 6 seconds, you likely have very high pressure (> 10 L/min), which is excellent for Doulton Water Filter Systems but may need to install a pressure reducer.
If it took 7 - 12 seconds, you likely have a medium to low water pressure which should be adequate to run the system.
If it took anything over 12 seconds, we would not recommend using a Doulton Under Sink Water Filter system without seeking advice on your mains water pressure - ideally you need 30 psi/ 2 bar.
However, you may want to explore our British Berkefeld range for an option that requires no plumbing!
