Learn moreDo You Know What's In The Water You're...
Tap water in the UK has to meet a number of stringent standards while it's at the treatment plant. From there, the water will travel for many miles, through a variety of different pipes along the mains water network, before it reaches your taps. Unfortunately, this means that sometimes your drinking water might pick up some unwelcome guests on its journey between the treatment plant and your home. Check out our water solutions now! Depending on where you are in the country (and which water board manages your supply), your drinking water might contain slightly different elements and contaminants. UK tap water is known to contain some microplastics, and may also contain some heavy metals, such as small amounts of lead, mercury and cadium. Some tap water in the UK has been found to contain parasites such as cryptosporidium and giardia, along with bacteria like E. coli, cholera, typhoid, shigella and klebslella terrigena. The list doesn't stop there, with some UK tap water also known to pick up traces of some pesticides, rust, copper and other particulates as it travels to your home. However, along with the things that you'd probably rather weren't in your drinking water, mains tap water also contains natural and beneficial minerals, such as calcium, magnesium and potassium which are essential for good health. How do different types of water filter work? Water filter jugs and most portable bottles with water filters work by using activated carbon to trap the particulates in our water, leaving cleaner water for us to drink. However, this type of filter can't filter out any bacteria that is present in the water. Reverse osmosis water filters are designed to remove both pollutants and bacteria, but they also filter out the beneficial minerals that help water taste great and are good for your health. Ceramic water filters are designed to remove the bacteria, pathogens and contaminants naturally, but leave the important healthy minerals behind, resulting in great-tasting filtered water that gives peace of mind for the whole family. Why choose a Doulton® water filter? At Doulton®, nearly 200 years of research and development goes into our water filters. We use natural ceramic technology the trap the particles, bacteria and microplastics in mains water, and deliver filtered water straight to a tap in your kitchen, with the mechanics of our systems cleverly hidden out of sight under the sink. It's important to Doulton® that the water you drink should have contaminants removed but that the beneficial minerals remain, helping your water taste fresh and clean every time. Learn moreWhat Makes The Doulton TASTE Water Filter Bottle...
Just as there is a major difference between a water filter fitted to your sink and a jug filter, there is a difference between refillable water bottles and the filters that they can include. While orange juice from concentrate can have the same outward appearance as freshly squeezed orange juice, we all know there is a big difference. The difference at its most basic level is quality-rich nutrients, a better taste, and a purer product. The same can be said for many apparently similar products that, under the surface have a vitally different make-up, oak furniture and oak veneered furniture for one. It is the differences that we can't see that so often make the real difference. When it comes to creating a quality product that performs at an exceptional level, it takes time, testing and investment. The product itself reflects this attention to detail and the use of high specification materials, usually at a cost. The Doulton TASTE portable filter bottle is no exception. On outward appearances, it may look like any other reusable water bottle, but with the added benefit of filtration. Check out our refillable Water Bottles now! How does the Doulton TASTE portable bottle work? Inside, however, the TASTE portable filter bottle is packed with specialist technology to provide powerful filtration on the go. It is important to note that the Doulton TASTE bottle provides an accurate picture of how effective it is at removing contaminants from water. The filter traps and removes any particles in drinking water down to one micron in size, including rust, dirt, and microplastics. Tests have proved that the TASTE portable filter bottle removes more than 95 per cent of chlorine along with organic contaminants, which improves the taste and odour of the water. In addition, the TASTE portable filter bottle will reduce more than 90% of heavy metals in drinking water, such as lead. During testing, engineers at Doulton Water Filters carefully measure how long a filter can continue to work to provide optimum filtration. The 500ml TASTE portable filter bottle can be reliably filled 600 times without compromising quality, providing 300 litres of water. The filter is easily replaced and can even be removed from the bottle if required. Learn moreWhy Choose A Doulton Water Filter Over Reverse Osmosis?
There is more than one approach to water filtration. Understanding the difference can help you to choose a filter that is right for you. Doulton water filters use ceramic technology to improve the quality of drinking water, while some other systems often use reverse osmosis, but what is the difference? Check out our water solutions now! How does a ceramic water filter work? Doulton use ceramic technology to filter contaminants from drinking water. Made from natural earths, the filters are engineered into layers to provide highly effective filtration through tiny micro-pores that are less than one micron in size. This effectively works in the same way that rocks cleanse water in nature, as the water flows through the porous surface, thousands of micro-pores trap unwanted particles to leave clean water. Each filter features an activated carbon core, made from coconut shell, which removes chlorine from the water. Furthermore, an ion exchange resin is incorporated into some Doulton water filters that remove heavy metal ions from drinking water, including lead. This process also helps to soften water. Doulton ceramic filters: Achieve absolute filtration, removing up to 99.99% of common contaminants. Retain healthy, naturally occurring minerals in the water Generate no wastewater Deliver a great taste through disinfectant removal Offer a tailored range of filters to target particular concerns Are long-lasting How does a reverse osmosis water filter work? Reverse osmosis removes impurities from drinking water by pushing water through a semi-permeable membrane that traps particles and removes them from the water. Molecules larger than water will be rejected through the process to remove contaminants from drinking water. The downside to reverse osmosis Reverse Osmosis is a highly effective method of water filtration; however, the catch-all approach to filtration does mean that 'good minerals, as well as 'bad', get removed from drinking water. This includes magnesium and calcium, which are important to health. The result is what can be referred to as empty water, which also leaves the water with a slightly acidic PH. Another drawback to reverse osmosis water filtration is the length of time it takes to process, as it relies on pressure to push the water through a membrane. This can result in a long wait for freshwater. The nature of the process means that reverse osmosis water filtration generates a relatively large amount of wastewater, as much as double the amount of clean drinking water received. The wider picture While ceramic water filters and reverse osmosis both achieve exceptional levels of water filtration for reliable, cost-effective clean water, it is worth considering the wider picture. Natural ceramic filters allow healthy minerals to remain, while these are lost in the reverse osmosis process, leaving empty water. Homeowners with a water meter should be wary of the waste associated with a reverse osmosis system, which can again be affected by water pressure. If you want fresh drinking water on tap, without having to wait, a ceramic filter is an excellent choice. Not all water filters are the same. A Doulton water filter delivers absolute filtration, on tap, with no waste, and it will retain the healthy minerals in drinking water. Want to learn more? Learn moreJoin Doulton Water Filters at Grand Designs Live
We are reminding visitors at Grand Designs Live that taking care of the simple things like clean drinking water, is the best way to build the foundations for a healthy and sustainable home. Bringing two new products to the show at the Birmingham NEC, Doulton Water Filters will be keen to drive home the message that sustainability and good health can be individual choices. Manufacturing high-quality water filters, the Staffordshire company wants more people to embrace sustainable living through the use of a water filter rather than relying on bottled water. Check out our water solutions now! For the first time, the ceramic filtration specialist will be showcasing its high-end Royal Doulton ELITE water filter, which combines sleek lines with the highest specification water filter, alongside the new portable filter bottle. The aim of both products is to allow families access to the highest quality drinking water, whether they are at home or on the move. Sustainable living With approximately 7.7 billion single-use plastic water bottles being used in the UK each year, Doulton Water Filters wants consumers to make the switch to tap water while remaining convinced of the quality of their drinking water. Two of the products displayed by the firm at Grand Designs Live, the top-end Royal Doulton ELITE and the filtadapt, are designed to become an integral part of the kitchen by providing clean filtered water on tap. Using natural ceramic technology, these water filters remove up to 99.99% of common contaminants from drinking water, including chlorine, micro-plastics, bacteria and heavy metals to improve the taste and quality. Such is the importance of these products in helping to turn the tide of plastic waste pollution, the flexible and affordable filtadapt has already been named 'game changer' by influential trend predictor Scarlet Opus at this year's Exclusively Housewares show. Renewable hydration is a major part of efforts to cut reliance on single-use plastic, and Doulton Water Filters believes its products offer a solution. Recognising the need for reliable drinking water on the move, the firm has now introduced the Doulton TASTE filter bottle, which compresses the high-efficiency filtration Doulton is known for into a portable bottle. The resilient and robust TASTE bottle allows people to fill up on the go, wherever they are, without needing to buy single-use plastic water bottles. Cut back on single-use plastic by using a water filter Using a water filter over the space of 10 years is forecast to avoid the purchase of 23,000 single-use plastic water bottles. Doulton Water Filters marketing manager Yvonne Allen said: "The impact of single-use plastic is shocking and we all need to play a part to protect the environment. There really is no excuse for buying single-use plastic bottles of water. A water filter will deliver clean, healthy, great-tasting water on tap, day after day at a fraction of the cost." One knock-on effect of plastic pollution has been concerned about the human consumption of microplastics. It has been reported that humans ingest 50,000 plastic micro-particles each year. Plastic micro-particles have been found in tap water and bottled water, with people who drink bottled water consuming 90,000 extra micro-particles compared to 4,000 for tap water. Doulton water filters remove fine particles that are invisible to the naked eye, such as dirt, rust, and microplastics. Yvonne added: As well as offering a way to cut back on bottled water, water filters will help to protect you from consuming plastic micro-particles. Investing in a water filter is a way to help protect your health as well as play your part in protecting the environment. "Doulton water filters are subjected to strenuous to verify our claims and cut back on numerous contaminants that have been linked to health issues. Adding a water filter to your kitchen should be a natural step for families interested in sustainable and healthy living. "For water that tastes great and is free from contaminants, a Doulton water filter makes an excellent investment for your health, home and future." Learn moreHelp Your Child Make the Most of School:...
Do you want to help your child concentrate at school? One easy improvement to make could be to encourage them to drink more water. Good hydration is essential to good brain health as well as your overall wellbeing, including helping to boost and maintain concentration levels. Children have more water in their bodies than adults, so it makes sense that drinking enough water will help them to perform at their best, physically and mentally. They are also more susceptible to dehydration as a result of this. Check out our water solutions now! How does water help with my child's concentration? One of the indicators of dehydration is tiredness and memory loss, which are probably the enemies of concentration and should be avoided at all costs. Drinking water regularly throughout the day will help to fend off those early signs of dehydration before they become a problem. Water also ensures the body and the brain can function properly. Fluid helps to transport blood around the body to the major organs, regulates temperature, and controls responses such as histamine levels. While ensuring that blood keeps flowing to the brain, water also supplies oxygen to the brain and supports the function of brain cells. Did you know? Water makes up more than 70% of the brain. Water makes up more than 70% of the brain, but the brain is unable to store water, which is why good hydration is so important to support brain health. Even only slight levels of dehydration have been found to affect concentration levels as well as cause increased stress and tension. Drink water to improve concentration at school The good news is that as little as 25mls of water will help to boost the concentration of a child by 30%, while 300mls will restore optimum performance by 25% in adults, according to a study by the University of Westminster and the University of East London. Such is the improvement in mood and concentration that the study recommends taking water into exams and tests. The best way to fend off dehydration is to keep drinking water handy and take sips throughout the day, as once thirst becomes a factor, the chances are that you are already beginning to feel the effects of dehydration. Why water? It's not just dehydration that can cause dips in mood and concentration, excessive consumption of sugar or caffeine can result in energy crashes, which is why it makes sense to try to get your child to stick to water. With no extra calories or sugar, water will not harm your child's teeth or add to their daily calorie intake and it is virtually free when drunk from the tap or a water fountain. The cheapest and most environmentally-friendly way to make sure your child stays hydrated is to fill up a reusable bottle with filtered water at home that they can top up later on if needed. Using a water filter will help to improve the taste of bottled water, which could help you to encourage your child to drink more. Along with good nutrition, adequate sleep, and exercise, drinking water will put in place the foundations for a good education by supporting your child's wellbeing and concentration levels. Learn moreFilters Offer Solution to Concerns Over Microplastics in...
A new study has found that people drinking bottled water are possibly consuming more than double the amount of microplastics than those who choose tap water. Now Doulton Water is reminding families who want to take action to protect themselves against ingesting microparticles that a water filter can help. Check out our water solutions now! A recent study into the effect of plastic pollution on humans, led by Kieran Cox, found that people could be consuming as many as 39,000 to 52,000 plastic microparticles each year. The study drew the findings from existing research and found evidence of plastic micro-particles in a number of food and drink products. These products included honey, beer, sugar and salt. The study then looked at how often these were consumed. However, a startling finding from the study carried out by the University of Victoria and the Hakai Institute research centre, was how much the expected level of microplastic consumption increased when drinking bottled water. Plastic micro-particles in bottled water People who only drank tap water were found to be exposed to 4,000 plastic microparticles compared to 90,000 in people who only drank bottled water. With little known about the effects of consuming microplastics on the body or tolerance levels, there is concern about what effect this could have. The consequences could be people taking action to cut their exposure to, and reliance on plastic in their day-to-day lives. Doulton Water manufactures water filtration systems from its base in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, that remove microplastics from tap water down to 0.5 microns in size. Control the quality of your water People often ask, 'Can water filters remove microplastics?' Doulton's water filters use all-natural ceramic technology to remove up to 99.99% of common contaminants from drinking water, including microplastics. So, in simple terms, yes. Marketing manager Yvonne Allen said: "Our health is too important to take chances with, and taking steps to avoid consuming microplastics clearly makes sense. Doulton water filters allow people to drink water straight from the tap that is clean and that tastes as good as bottled water. Research into microplastics in drinking water has focused on particles sized 6.5 to 100 microns. Doulton Water Filters will remove plastic-sized particles just 0.5 microns from drinking water making them ideal for families who want peace of mind in regard to what they are drinking. "The findings are certainly alarming, but as individuals, we can take action to protect ourselves as well as to cut down our single-use plastic waste footprint by choosing not to buy bottled water." Doulton Water Filters is a global water filtration specialist that has been manufacturing ceramic water filters for nearly 200 years. Want to learn more?
